Tulips are my favorite flower to paint. They’re simple but elegant, they come in a variety of colors, and the leaves offer a lot of opportunities to play with a range of blues, greens, and yellows. I wasn’t sure if the pastel background would work with this painting, but I think I pulled it off. This painting is based on a tutorial in Fiona Peart’s book, “Tulips in Watercolor.”
Here’s a close-up view:
Absolutely stunning!! The colours are magnificent, I love, love, love!!!! 🙂
Thank you, Kelly. I’m glad you like it.
The color harmony is superb. Beautiful.
Thank you, Elena. The colors I used were turquoise light, naples yellow, Winsor blue (green shade), raw sienna, and a combination of french ultramarine and opera rose to make the purple–all by Winsor-Newton.
Nice work.
Thank you.
Oooo ooo ooo! This is really gorgeous, Jill! I love the soft hues you chose! 🙂
Thanks, Beth. I thought it was time to try something in softer colors.
This just may be my favorite of all your paintings. You know my lifetime lavender/purple love! Background just sells it!
Glad you like it, mom.

Really like your choice of colours with this one.
Thank you. I just hopped over to your blog. Love your work. Can’t wait to see more.
Thank you lady for stopping by. Working on several pieces.
Ahhh…. very nice! While the yellow / purple color harmony is a classic, you have really used it to *FULL* effect, here. There’s a richness that comes through even though the colors themselves are not overly intense. Hmmm…
Oh, what beautiful colors in this! Yummy!
Thank you, Suzie!
This is magnificent!! I love the colors. So beautiful.
Thank you, Vanessa.
Beautiful colors. Lots of purple. My favorite.
Thank you, Gretchen.
I like the style you are working in now, clear and controlled. Nice work. I also like the looser handling of the paint in Rainbow Zebra.
Thanks for liking Backgrounds at artcalling.
Thank you, Sarah. My daughter painted the zebra. I like her painting style, too. Thanks for the visit!
