Floral and Fairy Watercolor Paintings

My Sister’s Poppies

My sister’s first watercolor painting–completed during our Memorial Day family watercolor fest. How impressive is this for her first attempt? My sister, an accomplished sugar artist, said she imagined that she was decorating a cake. Watercolors on cold pressed Acquarello Artistico paper by Fabriano.

Family Watercolor Fest–Works in Progress

Since she liked the Poppies my daughter painted a few weeks ago, I chose this scaled-down version of the same painting from Fiona Peart’s “Vibrant Flowers in Watercolor” tutorial for my sister. She really rocked it.

My niece, Karen, chose a Tulip tutorial from Michael Lakin’s book, “Botanical Flowers in Watercolor.” My mother chose to paint an Agapanthus from the same book.

My daughter painted these Daffodils using a tutorial from the book, “Watercolor Flowers” by Wendy Tait as a guide. The addition of blue on the white petals really made this painting come alive.

And I’m working on this lesson featuring Tulips, Posies, and Hellebores from the book, “Tulips in Watercolor” by Fiona Peart. I’ll be posting photos of the completed paintings next.

Fledgling Bluebird

Hot off the press–a fledgling bluebird painted by my daughter. This was another lesson she adapted for watercolors from the book, “Painting Garden Birds” with Sherry C. Nelson. I love the texture she used to suggest feathers, and I particularly like the fluffy cheek and breast feathers. The budding rose is quite lovely, too. Mother’s Day Watercolor Fest–Calla Lily Version 2

For her second painting, my daughter chose to create another version of the same calla lily she painted last week. Her plan is to create a series featuring the same painting–using different colors, techniques, and mediums. It’s a great way to experiment with color, mediums, and painting techniques. I think it’s a fabulous idea. But then I think everything she does is awesome 🙂 Watercolors and acrylic ink on hot pressed Acquarello Artistico paper by Fabriano.

Mother’s Day Watercolor Fest–My Mom’s Second Painting

Here is another painting my mom completed during our Mother’s Day watercolor fest. The improvement between her first and second painting is remarkable. She really rocked this painting. She’s a regular grandma Moses. This painting tutorial was featured in Michael Lakin’s book, “Botanical Flowers in Watercolor.” Watercolors on hot pressed Acquarello Artistico paper by Fabriano.

Watercolor Poppies

My daughter, Greta, painted these gorgeous poppies during our Mother’s Day watercolor fest. The improvement between this painting and her earlier watercolor paintings is remarkable. And her timing is perfect–I can’t wait to show you how I plan to feature her painting in my upcoming Tangerine Tango home makeover. Watercolors on hot pressed Acquarello Artistico paper by Fabriano.

Mother’s Day Watercolor Fest–My Mom’s First Painting

My mother, daughter, and I enjoyed a three-generation watercolor fest this Mother’s Day weekend. We sat at the kitchen table and painted the day away. We had a great time. I hope my daughter will look back on the time we spent painting together with fond memories. This is my mom’s first watercolor painting. I think it’s totally awesome. Wait until you see her second painting–yep I convinced her to paint another one. The improvement between the two paintings is amazing. Mother’s Day Tulip Bouquet

I hope everyone is enjoying this fine Mother’s Day weekend. The weather was beautiful here today. I started out the day with a lovely Mother’s Day breakfast with my daughter, sister, and mother,  followed that up with a brief shopping spree, then ended the day with a joint painting session with my daughter. We convinced my mother to join in on the fun, and she painted her first watercolor painting. I’ll be posting copies of their paintings next. Tonight I’m giving myself top billing since today is my special day. This was another lesson featured in Fiona Peart’s book, “Tulips in Watercolor.” Watercolors on hot pressed Acquarello Artistico paper by Fabriano.
