Making an Entrance Part II–Front Door Makeover

Front door makeover

I hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day. I spent the day with my mother, daughter, brothers, sister, and their families. The entire family went out to dinner to celebrate. It was quite a challenge to seat all 20 of us together, but we managed to pull it off.

Afterwards, my daughter bought me flowers at a local nursery and helped me plant them in the garden. I finished off the day by painting my front door Deep Amethyst by Glidden. It was a bold color choice and I was a bit nervous to make the change but I’m thrilled with the end result. If you could throw caution to the wind and paint your door any color you want, what color would you choose?

My Pantone chip inspired front porch makeover is underway. I’m still waiting for the Dash and Albert rugs to be delivered. I need to power wash and paint the front porch pillars and railings–and paint the front door PURPLE. I know, right? I can’t wait to see everything pulled together. Next up on my spring cleaning list–a back deck makeover.

Blue Front Door Small

Last year I painted my foyer light grey. The look was fresh and clean, and the color worked well with my green living room walls, but it was a bit too boring for my taste. After mulling over the idea of repainting the foyer and stairwell to punch up the color, I took the easy way out and painted the front door instead. It was way less time consuming than painting the walls–it took about an hour from start to finish–and much cheaper, too.

I don’t know why I didn’t think of this solution sooner, I’m just glad that I did. I love end result. The light blue paint adds interest to the foyer and picks up the color of my living room chairs. Here’s a picture of the front door before my mini makeover. Which color do you prefer, the white or the blue?

Spring Family Room Makeover

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. Here’s a sneak peek at my upcoming spring family room makeover. I can’t wait for the furniture to be delivered. I’m still looking for a new coffee table and end tables. I’ve already picked out a new area rug, but couldn’t find a picture of it online. This update is long overdue. My family room has been looking a bit shabby lately–and not in a shabby chic sort of way.

I was sorting through photos tonight and came across these shots I took of my living room last spring. I’ve always been a fan of turquoise but when I added coral into the mix, this room really came to life.

The bookcases and end tables came from American Drew Furniture. The pretty aqua recliners and couch came from La-Z-Boy Furniture Gallery. Who knew La-Z-Boy recliners could look this good? They’ve come a long way since the sloppy, unattractive (but comfortable) chairs of my youth. The coral Suraya Archive floor cloth came from RugsUSA. The black and white curtains came from Pottery Barn, my absolute favorite place to shop.

Frodo’s Chair

Since Frodo has become a full-fledged family member, he deserves better accommodations. So I painted this stylish Frodo-sized chair so he can be more comfy when he hangs out on the deck. Based on the big grin on his face–check that out and his rosy cheeks–I’d say he likes it! Isn’t he adorable?

I’m going to miss him when he begins his winter hibernation. His visits are already getting fewer and farther between. So I stood outside in the rain early this morning to snap these pictures. I didn’t want to miss what might be my last photo opportunity of the season.

A Little Tangerine Tango on My Deck

So I danced around my deck this morning and splashed a little Tangerine Tango here and there so we could enjoy lunch and a view of the garden from our colorful deck. Two of my dogs–Mary and Marty (aka Piggy) and my little toad friend, Frodo (see my previous post), kept me company while I worked. That’s a lot of activity on such a small deck. It took me a while to prepare the deck with a good power washing and a new coat of deck stain plus trips to various stores and online shopping, but the end result was well worth the time, effort, and expense.

For those who are interested, here’s a rundown on where you can purchase these or similar items. I purchased the Faraday Dining Table and Chairs, Peridot Sunbrella Chair Cushions, and Seagrass Chargers at Pottery Barn. I ordered the colorful Poppies Outdoor Rug and Market Umbrella in Tango (see, everybody is getting into the act) from Grandinroad.com. I purchased the Pavilion Pillows in Green at Pier 1 Imports. I bought the colorful melamine dinner plates, glasses and pitcher, silverware, dipping bowls, and mini candles at Target.

What a fun project. Work is progressing on my other Tangerine Tango home improvement projects. I’ll be posting photos of the finished rooms in the coming months. I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoyed planning and pulling the rooms together.

Cleaned, Power Washed, and Stained and Ready to Tango

A little elbow grease, some major sweating (the heat has been unbearable in our area), power washing, deck staining, a bit of shopping and assembling of furniture, and I’m finally ready to do the tangerine tango on my deck–as soon as my table arrives, that is. It’s the last item remaining and it’s scheduled to arrive this week. I can’t wait to pull everything together and enjoy dinner on my freshly redecorated deck–and to share photos with you. In the meantime, I’ll just have to share photos of my little pal, Piggy. He likes to be the star of the show.

He really knows how to distract me from my photo sessions. He’s so darn adorable.

Armed and Dangerous

The target: two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The weapon of choice: Benjamin Moore paint with primer.

The palette: #2147-50 Pale Sea Mist, #2143-50 Old Prairie, #2123-50 Ocean Air, #2150-50 Hampton Green.

My accomplice: My brother, Steve–the best darn brother and house-painting expert in town. There will be a lot of painting going on this weekend, a lot of talking, and plenty of snacking taking place. It’s how we roll–pun intended. I’ll be posting pictures of our progress and the finished rooms. I hope you do something equally fun and productive this weekend.

Colorful Spring Living Room Makeover

My Caitlin Wilson Fleur3 pillow covers and Surya Archive coral rug from RugsUSA arrived yesterday–just in time for spring. I spent the morning cleaning so that my colorful new additions would look their best in the photos. The last photo is a shot of Steve interrupting my photography session. He managed to jump the baby gate and distract me from my work.
