Puppy Antics

This is Dexter, our Pomeranian/Dachshund mix puppy. Look at that sweet, innocent face. What lies behind such cuteness, such pure innocence?

A little monster! That WAS a new magazine I just received in the mail today but failed to keep out of his reach.

Look at that mess! And what does a little monster do when he’s caught in the act?

He gives me a little wink and a smile. So what did I do? Why, I ripped the remaining pages out of my magazine, crinkled them into little balls, and tossed them to him for a game of fetch. Who am I to ruin his fun? Cost of an hour’s fun: about $4.00. Playtime spent with my puppy: priceless.

Pig Racing and Other Fun at the Fauquier County Fair

For those of us who live in a rural area, one of the highlights of summer is attending the local county fair. The Fauquier County fair is a fun-filled, four-day event. This year’s festivities included pig racing, dairy cow and goat shows, a chicken parade, a 4H dog demonstration, a pizza eating contest, cake walks, watermelon seed spitting and pie eating contests, lawn mower and tractor pulls, corn shucking contests, rodeo shows, an apple pie contest, horse shows, and much more.

My daughter and I had a great time riding the amusement rides, watching the events, viewing the contest entries, and eating deliciously unhealthy fair food. Here are a few pictures of our fun-filled day.

A Little Tangerine Tango on My Deck

So I danced around my deck this morning and splashed a little Tangerine Tango here and there so we could enjoy lunch and a view of the garden from our colorful deck. Two of my dogs–Mary and Marty (aka Piggy) and my little toad friend, Frodo (see my previous post), kept me company while I worked. That’s a lot of activity on such a small deck. It took me a while to prepare the deck with a good power washing and a new coat of deck stain plus trips to various stores and online shopping, but the end result was well worth the time, effort, and expense.

For those who are interested, here’s a rundown on where you can purchase these or similar items. I purchased the Faraday Dining Table and Chairs, Peridot Sunbrella Chair Cushions, and Seagrass Chargers at Pottery Barn. I ordered the colorful Poppies Outdoor Rug and Market Umbrella in Tango (see, everybody is getting into the act) from Grandinroad.com. I purchased the Pavilion Pillows in Green at Pier 1 Imports. I bought the colorful melamine dinner plates, glasses and pitcher, silverware, dipping bowls, and mini candles at Target.

What a fun project. Work is progressing on my other Tangerine Tango home improvement projects. I’ll be posting photos of the finished rooms in the coming months. I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoyed planning and pulling the rooms together.

View of My Garden From My Kitchen Window

This photo is a bit dark since it’s cloudy today, but I thought I’d share a view of my garden from my  kitchen window while everything is still in bloom. Today’s show features red hardy hibiscus, red calla lilies, purple pansies, and purple crepe myrtle. Here’s a close up of a hibiscus bloom; humming birds can’t resist them.

This morning while I was eating breakfast and sipping my coffee, a humming bird fed at the hibiscus for a bit, flitted off for a snack at the crepe myrtle bush, then was gone in a flash. What a treat. Here’s a photo of my hibiscus plants from the outside.

Cleaned, Power Washed, and Stained and Ready to Tango

A little elbow grease, some major sweating (the heat has been unbearable in our area), power washing, deck staining, a bit of shopping and assembling of furniture, and I’m finally ready to do the tangerine tango on my deck–as soon as my table arrives, that is. It’s the last item remaining and it’s scheduled to arrive this week. I can’t wait to pull everything together and enjoy dinner on my freshly redecorated deck–and to share photos with you. In the meantime, I’ll just have to share photos of my little pal, Piggy. He likes to be the star of the show.

He really knows how to distract me from my photo sessions. He’s so darn adorable.

Memorial Day Family Watercolor Fest

What a busy Memorial Day. I spent the weekend dealing with a broken air conditioner, painting two bedrooms and bathrooms with the help of my brother Steve, shopping for new kitchen appliances, working in my garden, and hosting an impromptu family watercolor fest. What a fun-filled weekend. Here are some pictures of the artists (my mom, sister, niece, and daughter) at work.

Grandma’s watercolor set. It used to be mine, but she commandeered it. She’s a very tidy painter; look at that clean palette.

My boy, Piggy was there, too.

So was my Yorkie, Steve. Yes, he’s named after my brother.

Yorkie Antics

I turned around after loading the dishwasher this afternoon and found my Yorkie, Steve, watching me from his perch on the kitchen table.  I guess he wanted to get a better view. Ah, the trials and tribulations of owning a Yorkie. They are delightful little troublemakers. Before I shooed him off the table, I grabbed my camera and snapped a few shots for posterity.
